Surviving shark attacks

Shark attacks are one of the most feared attacks in the world today. Why is that?  Probably due to the fact of how large they are.  To avoid being attacked there are a few ways to avoid being attacked.

One way to avoid being attacked is to not wear bright colored clothing.  One piece of bright colored clothing is jewelry.  One reason why humans should not wear jewelry while swimming in the ocean, because sharks can mistake the fancy/shiny jewelry for fish scales.  When a shark gets hungry it is on the lookout, so when it sees that shiny jewelry it can and will mistake it for fish scales.  Also sharks care attracted to shiny things.  "Sharks can see contrast very well and consequently like bright colors!." According to Marian K on buzzle.com.  As Marian said sharks see contrast colors very well.  The main reason why you should not wear bright colored clothing is because the shark will mistake you for another sea animal.  When sharks attack it is usually not on purpose it is mainly because they mistakenly thought you were a tasty sea lion, sea turtle, or fish.

The second step to avoid being attacked by a shark is too not bleed!  Bleeding is a no no when swimming in the ocean.  Why?  "Great Whites can detect one drop of blood in 25 gal(100 L) of water and can sense even tiny amounts of blood in the water up to 3 mi (5km) away." -National Geographic.com/magazine.  If he/she is bleeding before he/she enters the water make sure the bleeding has completely stopped, bandage cut tightly and if decided to go ahead and start swimming make sure to watch the cut and watch the area for sharks.  If while swimming and a cut happens to appear; exit the water immediately.  Basically do the same thing as if he/she would do before he/she enter the water.  Make sure bleeding has ceased and bandage up the cut.. Also never go back to the same spot he/she were swimming at whenever the cut appeared, because the shark could have smelled the blood from the cut and could be heading that way.

While surfing in the ocean, do not dangle your limbs, (arms, legs, head, etc.) On a boogie board a shark can and will mistake you and your board for a tasty sea turtle.  The sea turtle is one of the sharks main meals.  Also make sure the boogie board is not brightly colored, because remember sharks are attracted too bright colors.  But while on a surf board though try to surf in safe surfing areas where there have not been a lot of attacks reported.  While using a surf board a shark can and will mistake you for a sea lion, which is the sharks favorite due to the fat the sea lion carries.  And also make sure your surf board is not brightly colored.

Sharks really are not that bad but if you do not follow these steps you will most likely be attacked.  Sharks do not attack on purpose (most of the time) when or if they attack they usually mistake the human for another meal.  Sharks do not like humans because we do not carry enough fat.
If you were attacked by a shark how would you react? would you stay calm or go nuts?
